It has been 3 weeks since I’ve become a student ambassador for NEA UK. I was initially
introduced to NEA UK by a family member, who is part of the association, hence why I
joined out of curiosity and I had interests in what the NEA UK had to offer. So far, I have
been able to join two meetings with the executive committee members, where we have
discussed the progression of the association and future activities we will hold.
Within these meetings, I have also been able to meet other senior engineers from multiple
different engineering disciplines and have been able to learn about the variety of different
projects they have been involved in, which is both fascinating and inspiring. Additionally, as
someone who has grown up in the UK and doesn’t know much about the engineering
association in Nepal, I believe that being an NEA UK member has helped me develop a
better understanding of what the engineering disciplines in Nepal involve.
Through my experience, I have also learned about the different roles involved within the civil engineering industry and the variety of jobs it involves which I was unaware of before I had joined the association. Additionally, the association has been a great motivation for me to think about my future choices and what they may involve.
In terms of being a student ambassador of NEA UK, my main roles and responsibilities
involve promoting the association to other students like myself who are studying to become an engineer and also helping them understand what the association stands for. Currently, I am having a positive experience with becoming a student ambassador and it certainly has been assisting me in developing my interpersonal and presentation skills which I believe will support me with my future career.
Furthermore, I am an undergraduate engineering student and I believe that I will be able to
benefit from this association in many different ways. This involves, being supported by the
committee in writing a CV, opportunities to participate in networking circles and information sharing. From a social perspective, it has widened my social network as well as I have been introduced to so many different engineers and I have enjoyed getting to know everyone!
There will be also opportunities to work in Nepal during summer break and present our
works from uni to professional which will help to practice and improve our presentation skills. Hence, I would recommend other engineering students to become a member of NEA UK and benefit from it as I have.
